The DOT will close several railroad crossings in Craven and Carteret counties over the next two weeks for maintenance.

The state says each crossing will be closed twice, for about eight hours, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The first phase of temporary railroad closures are scheduled as follows:

*Friendly Road (State Road 1605) and Old Airport Road (S.R. 1152) in Morehead City will be closed on Thursday, March 18. Motorists should use an alternate route.
*Murdoch Road (S.R. 1150) and Sam Garner Road (S.R. 1149) in Newport will be closed on Monday, March 22. There will be an on-site detour for motorists traveling this road. Trucks and buses will not be able to use the on-site detour and will need to use an alternate route during the closure.
*Carl Garner Road (S.R. 1148) and Chatham Road (S.R. 1247) in Newport will be closed on Wednesday, March 23. Motorists will need to use alternate route.
*Masontown Road (S.R. 1127) and Tom Mann Road (S.R. 1129) in Newport will be closed on Friday, March 24. Motorists should use an alternate route.

There is only one way in and out of Sam Garner Road. What kind of "alternate" route do they plan on having for the residents and buses for these two days? This is going to be something to see how they get around this.

Katie, I can give you an update. Don't expect to use that portion of 14th St. until R/R construction is finished.
