New Bern Bridge Removal Delayed

The much anticipated removal of the Alfred Cunningham will finally take place Tuesday.

The North Carolina DOT says positioning the barges under the swing bridge will take place tomorrow. On Wednesday they plan to lift the bridge onto the barges and hopefully move the structure up river.

The 380-ton span had been scheduled for removal last week, but was delayed because one of the barges didn't arrive on time.

The bridge will eventually be moved to Edenton and used for scrap.
