Local soldiers who have been deployed to the to support the Iraq war were honored with a welcome home ceremony in Williamston Thursday.
Fifty-five troops from the 730th Quartermaster Battalion based in Ahoskie, gathered inside the Senator Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center with friends and family to celebrate their safe return from Kuwait.
The soldiers of the North Carolina Army National Guard were mobilized in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. One soldier from Beaufort County was excited to see the Carolina blue sky again.
The 730th soldiers provided logistics for over 100,000 U.S. troops deploying and redeploying to Iraq.
