ATLANTIC BEACH, CARTERET COUNTY-- Monday, the state house of representatives is expected to decide whether or not to formally approve a saltwater recreational fishing license bill to be signed into law.
Last week, they voted 54 to 50 to give the bill tentative approval.
If and when this becomes a law, everyone who fishes along the coast must first purchase a license that’s good for a full year.
Money generated by the license fee is slated to be spent on fisheries, habitats and enhancements.
If it passes the house, the bill will then go to Governor Mike Easley to be signed into law.
