The North Carolina Department of Transportation says bridges will be replaced in four counties in Eastern Carolina, while part of Highway 12 in Dare County is going to be resurfaced.

Work on all of the projects may begin as early as March 29.

A Williamston company won the contract to replace the bridge on
Grabtown Road over Roquist Creek, which is west of Windsor in Bertie County. Roberson Contracting Inc. of Williamston won the $670,118 contract. The bridge replacement project is expected to be complete by October 1.

A company from South Carolina has until May 2011 to complete replacing the bridge on NC 99 over Pungo Creek, south of Belhaven in Beaufort County. The $3.8 million contract was awarded to Carolina Bridge Company Inc. of Greenville, S.C.

The bridge on Hugo Road over Wheat Swamp Creek, east of Hookerton in Greene County is set to be replaced. The $610,023 contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson. Work is scheduled to be completed by December 31.

Near Goldsboro, a contract worth $618,688 was awarded to Sanford Contractors Inc. of Sanford to replace the bridge on Airport Road over the Nahunta Swamp. This project is also to be completed by December 31.

The bridge on Gardner School Road over White Oak Swamp, north of Saratoga in Wilson Count will be replaced by the end of this year. The $544,868 contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten.

The above projects are all traditionally funded, the NCDOT says. However, a project in Dare County is getting funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Crews will resurface NC 12 from the National Park Service boundary south of Salvo, south eight miles. The $1.3 million contract was awarded to RPC Contracting Inc. of Kitty Hawk. Work is scheduled to be done by June 11, 2011.
