Contract Awarded For GTP Rail
The railroad will connect the site of Spirit Aerosystems at the Global Transpark in Kinston to the port in Morehead City.

Work could begin within weeks on a new railroad line to connect the site of Spirit Aerosystems at the Global Transpark in Kinston to the port in Morehead City.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced the contract to lay 5.6 miles of rail line, worth $14.3 million dollars, has been awarded to Hinkle Contracting Company LLC of Paris, Ky. State officials say the work can begin as soon as March 29, with a completion date of November 2011.
Spirit Aerosystems broke ground on a new facility at the Global Transpark in 2008, and the work is expected to be complete by the end of 2010. The 500,0000 square foot facility sits on 304 acres of land. It will be the anchor site for the Global Transpark, in Kinston.
Spirit will construct the center fuselage of the newest airbus 350 X-W-B. While the company promises to employ close to a thousand people once they've opened, they've already been a boost to the economy.
Spirit specializes in constructing the one of kind, airbus 350, which is a new family of mid-size wide body airlines that should roll out in 2013.

Maybe the rail line will help gtb to grow. They need it years ago.
Why? I have lived here my whole life and I think the only real contribution of the GTP were the dumb GTP license plates in the 90s. Yet another waste of money
