This year, Mexican tycoon Carlo Slim Helu beat out Americans Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the wealthiest person in the world and top the 2010 Forbes list of the world's billionaires.
Slim's fortune is an estimated $53.5 billion dollars.
Gates, now worth $53 billion, is ranked second in the world.
Warren Buffett's fortune jumped $10 billion to $47 billion on rising shares of Berkshire Hathaway, he now ranks third.
The minimum net worth to be named to the list is 1.3 billion.
U.S. billionaires still dominate the ranks, accounting for 40-percent of the world's billionaires.
And for the first time China has the most billionaires outside the U.S. with 89, Russia has 62 billionaires and Finland and Pakistan both welcomed their first billionaires.

Only one comment....Bill Gates is a giving man who got a lot of weath quicker than he knew what to do with it. Unlike George Soros, who has it uses it to destroy the UK and now, in America. Gate's Giving Location: NW thanks for setting the facts straight. For you that voted on Obama and democrats, just how is that hopey changey thing going for ya?
Bill Gates is not just one of the richest men on Earth, he's one of the most generous.......The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (B&MGF or the Gates Foundation) is the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world, founded by Bill and Melinda Gates. The foundation is "driven by the interests and passions of the Gates family". The primary aims of the foundation are, globally, to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and in America, to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology. The foundation, based in Seattle, Washington, is controlled by its three trustees: Bill Gates, Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett. Other principal officers include Co-Chair William H. Gates, Sr. and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Raikes. It has an endowment of US$33.5 billion as of December 31, 2009. That's right. 33 1/2 BILLION dollars for 3rd world healthcare, those living in extreme poverty, and education here in America. Really selfish guy, huh?
It is a shame that some people are so ignorant that they say things like these men are going to hell because they are rich, or they got the money by being crooked. These are some of the most intellegent men in the world and we should be proud to have people like Bill Gates and others living in America. They used their brains to achieve their goals in life. I am sure these men are not high school drop outs or drug dealers. They didn't become rich by condeming other people. Look around you, "wake up and smell the roses" It takes a bunch of ignorant jealous people to judge others. If you need money, go out and work for it, get an education and quit condeming people that succeed in life.
