The Amber Alert Plan is a voluntary partnership between Law-Enforcement Agencies and Broadcasters to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases. all fifty states use the Amber Alert.
The U.S. Department of Justice reports about 800 thousand children were reported missing in a one-year period of time. Close to two hundred-four thousand were the victims of family abductions and 58 thousand two hundred children were the victims of non-family abductions.
In North Carolina, about ten thousand children are reported missing a year.
