Former state legislator Coy C. Privette will resign his leadership post with the State Baptist Convention of North Carolina.
The announcement comes the same week the 74-year-old was arrested and charged with six counts of aiding and abetting prostitution. Arrest warrants say Privette rented a Salisbury hotel room and paid for sexual acts with 32-year-old Tiffany Denise Summers. She's been charged with six counts of prostitution.
The state says all charges are misdemeanors.
Privette, of Kannapolis, is a former convention president who now sits on the group's executive committee and board of directors.
Privette was suspended Thursday as president of the Christian Action League of North Carolina until the court case is resolved.
