Edwards Issues Challenges To Bush On Poverty

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has challenged President Bush to explain polices that Edwards says favor the wealthy.

The former North Carolina senator ended an eight-state poverty store this week.

Edwards' letter to President Bush says five million Americans have fallen into poverty during his administration.

Edwards has made poverty the centerpiece of his campaign.

He spoke yesterday to a convention of union workers in Des
Moines, Iowa, yesterday.

A spokesman for the Republican National Committee yesterday called Edwards the wrong man to lead the effort against poverty.
Chris Taylor pointed to Edwards' now-infamous 400-dollar haircut.

Edwards says none of his Democratic rivals has devoted as much
attention to fighting poverty.
