Four inmates, a DOT worker and two other people were injured this afternoon in a crash on U.S. 70 in Craven County.
The DOT says a car rear-ended its flat bed truck near Cove City around 1 pm.
The four inmates are from the Carteret Correctional Center in Newport. They were part of a litter detail and were on their way back to the DOT yard when the accident happened.
A woman passenger in the car was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital. The inmates and DOT worker were not seriously injured.
