Drivers License Requirement For Car Sales Repealed

North Carolina's General Assembly has repealed a law requiring those who buy cars in the state to have a North Carolina driver's license.

The act was signed into law July 4th as a way to lighten a loop hole that allowed out-of-state residents to buy new cars in North Carolina and take advantage of lower insurance rates.

But critics of the law said it would impact the state's large military population and college students.

The amended law says those out-of-state residents with a military ID or proof of enrollment in North Carolina schools do not have a state driver's license or ID card to buy a car.
