Troopers Launch Crackdown On Truck Safety

The state is getting serious about truck safety with a major inspection point at the Interstate 77 rest area in Mecklenburg County near the South Carolina state line.

The Highway Patrol brought in 40 additional troopers to run the
checkpoint that aims to reduce collisions between tractor-trailers
and other vehicles. Troopers will inspect vehicles and interview
drivers.

Inspections will last through Friday.

Highway Patrol commander Fletcher Clay says he told troopers to be aggressive about commercial vehicles' safety violations.
