An assistant director at the state Division of Motor Vehicles has sued the agency. Joey Gardner says his superiors punished him for reporting concerns about D-M-V Commissioner George Tatum.
Gardner wrote in a memo last month that Tatum had tried to help a friend get a vintage truck title for a replica truck. Gardner was suspended with pay and ordered him to undergo a psychological
evaluation. The lawsuit says the agency took his badge, gun and the
keys to his state car.
Gardner has been reinstated. But Gardner's attorney says Gardner
still wants his badge, gun, car, attorneys' fees and monetary damages. He also questions why the agency asked him to undergo a psychological evaluation.
A D-M-V spokeswoman says division officials had not seen the
lawsuit and therefore could not comment.
