Honda Will Make Jet Engines At North Carolina Plant

Honda says it will build a jet engine plant in Alamance County that will employ 70 workers over the next four years.

The 27 million dollar plant cements North Carolina at the center of the Japanese automakers aviation strategy.

Honda Aero says salaries at the plant in Burlington will average 62-thousand dollars annually. The jobs include 15 corporate positions that will move when the company's headquarters switches from northern Virginia to Burlington.

Honda Aero is responsible for Honda's aeronautical engine business and joined forces with General Electric in 2004. The combined company, G-E Honda Aero Engines will build the plant next to the Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2010.
