Edwards Campaign Headquarters Changes Mail Protocol

The John Edwards campaign has changed mail operations for its headquarters after suspicious packages caused evacuations in recent months.

Campaign officials say they've taken care of the problem, but they won't discuss the details.

The former senator from North Carolina opened his national campaign headquarters last year on an upstairs floor of a building in Southern Village, a residential and commercial development in Chapel Hill. Since then, authorities have responded three times to suspicious packages addressed to the office.

The latest evacuation occurred last week when a beeping package
arrived that forced nearby shops, doctor's offices and other
businesses to close for about three hours. A bomb squad eventually
deemed the package safe, after finding beeping watches inside.
