Jim Black Wants To Begin Prison Sentence In September

Former state House Speaker Jim Black would like to start his prison sentence closer to the beginning of fall.

Black's attorneys asked a judge today to delay the start of his five-year prison sentence until September tenth while authorities decide where the Mecklenburg County Democrat will serve his term.

Black was supposed to report to prison on July 30th.

Once one of the most powerful politicians in North Carolina, Black was sentenced to more than five years in prison for taking 25-thousand dollars in cash from chiropractors while pushing their agenda at the Legislature.

Prosecutors wrote in a separate court motion today that they aren't opposed to the delay.
