Parents Sue School District Over Student/Teacher Relationship

The parents of a 16-year-old girl who married a 40-year-old former high school coach have sued the Brunswick County Board of Education, saying officials failed to protect their daughter.

Dennis and Betty Hager of Oak Island are seeking at least 20-thousand dollars from the district for allegedly failing to discipline Brenton Wuchae.

The science teacher and cross country coach mentored Windy Hager at South Brunswick High School and resigned June 18th, the day the couple married.

The school board says administrators closely monitored and limited the couple's relationship but never found evidence of any romance.

The Hagers say they approached school officials with concerns over the relationship.

School board Chairman Scott Milligan says the lawsuit is "without merit."
