It was a source of environmental problems for years, but not anymore.
The new regional wastewater treatment facility that replaces the often troubled peachtree wastewater treatment plant in Kinston, was dedicated Tuesday. The peachtree plant often had spills and was devastated by Hurricane Floyd in 1999.
In addition to moving the plant out of a wetlands area, the city was also able to relocate about 2,000 residents from a flood prone area.
