A vote in Washington D.C. this week could put an end to Washington County as a possible site for the outlying landing field
The senate will vote this week on the defense authorization bill. The house version eliminated 10.6 million dollars for the landing field in Washington County. The senate version does give the Navy 5 million dollars to study other possibilities.
Officials from Virginia are now lobbying for the site and will ask the Navy to consider OLF sites in their state. Representatives from the Virginia governors office met with the Navy Tuesday. Virginia has identified ten sites in southeast Virginia for the Navy to study.
