A piece of history on the Outer Banks has come alive for visitors to enjoy.
The old U.S. Weather Bureau station in Hatteras Village, which dates back to 1901, re-opened Monday as a welcome center.
The station was decommissioned in 1946. Eleven such outposts were built in all. This one is the only standing structure of its original architectural design. The renovations cost $850,000.
