A man who has been described as the most brutal killer in Onslow County's history has died in prison.
The Department of Corrections says 65 year old Marcus Shrader, who was convicted of killing one woman and accused of killing three others in Jacksonville in 1974, died in Central Prison Friday.
Corrections officials say he died from a long term illness.
Victim's families fought to fight to keep Shrader behind bars the past few years as he went before the parole commission.
Shrader was sentenced to death, until that changed to life in prison because of a U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1976.
