A Wilson County deputy sheriff was stabbed with a box cutter today during a domestic violence call and had surgery for his wound.
Sheriff Wayne Gay said the deputy, whose name wasn't released, had been an employee of the department for 12 years.
Gay said the deputy and another officer met a woman at a convenience store and went with her to a house where the attack occurred.
The sheriff says 35-year-old Jimmy Allen Pennell was charged with first-degree attempted murder, malicious assault, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting a public officer and assault on a female.
He being held under a three million dollars bond.
