Another name is joining the race to become state treasurer.
Republican state Representative Dale Folwell of Winston-Salem says he wants to succeeding Richard Moore. He says he will make a formal announcement in the next few weeks to seek the Republican nomination. He is in his second House term after eight years as a local school board member.
A former investment manager, Folwell says if elected he would protect North Carolina's strong health care rating and improve the health of the state employees' health insurance plan.
The state treasurer's biggest responsibility is overseeing North Carolina's 74 billion-dollar public pension funds for an estimated 700 thousand public workers.
