Branker Named Warden At Central Prison

The deputy warden at Central Prison since 2003 has been promoted to warden.

The Department of Correction says Gerald Branker replaced Marvin Polk, who retired as warden June First.

Central Prison is a maximum-security facility in Raleigh. It houses about one-thousand adult male prisoners and the state's execution chamber. An infirmary and mental health facility for male prisoners also is on site.

Branker was hired as a correctional officer in 1979. He has spent most of his career at Central Prison. He also was a special assistant to the state prison director for two years.
