Highway Patrol To Use LIDAR

North Carolina Highway Patrol officers say they have a different way to check if your speeding when you hit the highways during the Fourth of July holiday.

The system is called LIDAR, which stands for light detection and ranging. It uses the same principle as RADAR, except that it uses light.

During last Fourth of July, six people were killed and 302 injured in accidents on North Carolina roadways.
