Two American soldiers are being charged with the premeditated murder of three Iraqis.
A military announcement in Baghdad today identifies the soldiers as Staff Sergeant Michael Hensley of Chandler, North Carolina, and Specialist Jorge Sandoval of Laredo, Texas.
Hensley is now in custody in Kuwait. Sandoval was arrested while at home in Texas this week and transferred back Kuwait in military confinement. Both are with an Army combat team based at Fort Richardson, Alaska.
The military says the two were involved in three separate killings since April near a city south of Baghdad. The statement doesn't give details of the incidents but says the charges include premeditated murder, "wrongfully placing weapons with the remains of deceased Iraqis," and in Hensley's case, obstruction of justice.
The military says it began an investigation based on reports from other soldiers.
