Johnny Clevinger was arrested in Carteret County last May. The FBI has been involved with the Clevinger investigation. He's charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor and first degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
The 51-year-old was hired in 2001 and worked at Morehead City Elementary, Morehead City Primary and Newport Middle School.

I am John Clevinger's sister & I am appalled at how people treated him. My brother was always different in some respects, but he was also a very responsible, caring person with a compassionate, generous heart. John worked very hard to obtain his degrees, as our family had little money, but he never complained. I would like to point out that John spent 3 torturous months in jail & an additional 9 miserable months going back & forth to court, with every date extended so the local police could continue to look for SOME kind of evidence. It was obvious that they just didn't want to be found with "egg on their faces." John Clevinger was never indicted for ANYTHING. Even the FBI, back in January, dropped its investigation for lack of evidence. My brother tried his absolute best to take children with horrible starts in life and give them every chance to make it in this world. John went through hell for them, as they came with so many problems in place. We should all mourn his passing.

I am appalled. I sat in a meeting with a team of teachers and him about my daughter's education and am sickened at his complete lack of character and integrity. As educators we are held to a higher standard and should have the decency to honor parents for entrusting us to keep their kids safe. To know I was in the same room with him discussing important issues about my child makes me wish I would have taken her out earlier than I did. I just feel bad for his own children, especiallly if he has boys which I think he does. What a disgrace to our community and schools!!

Well, it seems that we at least know of one school, which more than likely spends more time and money on their sport's program [I am not against school sports programs], then they do checking out their teacher’s background. Have they justdecided to take a chance? Feeling that they will find out when he steps out of line with one of our children? “Bad move, Charlie” Where are the protest groups when you need one, I am willing to make a sign and carry it anyone else. thanks
