The FBI is looking into the disappearance of a Wayne County man from a cruise ship sailing through the Bahamas.
Brent Smith was last seen around 1:45 am Monday on his stateroom balcony aboard the Freedom of the Seas, which is owned by Royal Caribbean International. A statement from the cruise ship says relatives reported him missing around 8:30 am.
An FBI spokesman says the ship turned around at that point to search for Smith, who was traveling with his brother, Matthew Smith, and his brother's girlfriend. Coast Guard crews launched a search as well.
Officials say 24-year-old Brent Smith was born in Fremont.
The ship docked Wednesday in Puerto Rico so that FBI experts could determine whether foul play was involved. The agency spokesman declined to say whether agents retrieved any evidence from Smith's cabin or other areas.
The Freedom of the Seas will return to Miami on Sunday morning.
