Johnston Sheriff's Deputy Fired, Charged With Assault

Authorities have charged a Johnston County sheriff's deputy with assaulting his ex-girlfriend and two men in a parking lot over the weekend.

Scott Campbell Richardson was fired Tuesday and arrested. He was
charged with two counts of simple assault, one count of assault on a female and one count of communicating threats.

Richardson had been a deputy for ten years. He was a former narcotics officer and spent the last school year as a resource officer at North Johnston High School.

The incident occurred Sunday. An office spokeswoman says Richardson was --not-- arrested until the sheriff's office completed an internal investigation.
