Twenty four year old Brent Smith was reported missing by his family Monday afternoon. Coast Guard officials said they searched a one hundred thirty mile area for most of Monday and Tuesday and decided to suspend search late Tuesday evening. Coast Guard officials tell us they were not notified until thirteen hours after Smith was reported missing. A coast guard spokesperson tells us that delay coupled with no eye witnesses and a huge search area created less than ideal circumstances for a successful search. Friends of the Smith's say the family is retaining hope. Coast Guard officials said weather likely was not a factor. A prayer vigil is scheduled for Wednesday night at the family's church, Wilson Praise and Worship Center in Wilson.
