A Rowan County restaurant linked to an E-coli outbreak that killed one woman has been closed after health officials learned employees slaughtered a goat there.
Health officials can --not-- prove the goat slaughter caused the outbreak of the disease, which killed an 86-year-old woman last week.
Rowan County Health Director Leonard Wood says it will be difficult to prove a connection without part of the goat carcass.
Wood said yesterday a former employee of Captain's Galley Seafood Restaurant in China Grove informed health officials of the goat slaughter.
Faye Sides of Salisbury died Thursday at Rowan Regional Medical Center of complications related to an infection of a dangerous strain of the bacteria E-coli. She and 20 other people got sick after eating at the restaurant.
