Prisons Officer Pleads Guilty To Beating

A federal prison officer pleaded guilty today to beating an inmate who grabbed a second tray of food from a prison cafeteria.

The Justice Department says Christopher Conner pleaded guilty to
depriving an inmate of his constitutional rights. Conner was working as a guard at the federal Rivers Correctional Facility in Winton.

The Justice Department says Conner and two other correctional
officers repeatedly punched Demarrieo Davis in the head and body
during the March 2006 incident.

Conner faces up to ten years in prison and a fine of 250-thousand dollars.

The agency says Travis Ruffin pleaded guilty last week to making
a false statement in an attempt to cover up the beating. Ruffin faces up to one year in prison.
