Disgraced Durham County D-A Mike Nifong says he'll stay in office another month.
He submitted a resignation letter today, just two days after he was disbarred for unethical conduct in the Duke lacrosse case. He tells Governor Mike Easley in the letter that he'll leave office July 13th.
Nifong announced through tears at his ethics trial last week that he would resign. The trial ended with a disciplinary committee finding that he broke more that two dozen rules of professional conduct -- including lying to the court, making improper statements and withholding D-N-A evidence.
Nifong was disbarred for his actions.
There's --no-- word on whom Easley plans to appoint to replace Nifong.
