Rain Helps Stop Spread Of Wildfires In Pisgah National Forest

A welcomed break for 300-plus firefighters in the Pisgah National Forest.

Rain has helped stop the spread of wildfires that have been burning there for more than a week.

The U-S Forest Service says neither the 600-acre-fire at Dobson Knob or the 19-hundred-acre-fire at Shortoff Mountain are spreading.

The Burke County fires were sparked by lightning on June eighth.

The blazes have -not- caused any injuries and -weren't- immediately threatening private homes or land.

Two months of hot, dry weather had left the area with unusually high fire danger conditions.
