A Beaufort County deputy was injured in a accident early Friday morning when his patrol car struck a tree.

The Highway Patrol says it happened around 1:30 a.m on Highway 92, near Bath.

Deputy Mark Oakley had to be cut out of his vehicle by rescue workers. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says Oakley was treated for minor injuries and released from Beaufort County Medical Center around 3:45 a.m.

Deputies say Oakley was responding to a panic alarm at a home when he lost control of his patrol vehicle.

Troopers say Oakley's patrol car was totaled in the accident. They say because he was responding to a call there will be no charges brought.

Do Tell: I appreciate the kinds words regarding my fiance. He IS an excellent officer. Therefore, I assume you know him. However, I want to clarify that my remarks in the January 7th post were directed at negative posters here on the WITN thread concerning his character/ethics. I wanted them to know what kind of person they were attempting to talk about in this public fora (someone they do not know, obviously). I never said anything concerning his job or the like. I simply stated BCSO has a great asset. I just wanted the public to know the type of person he IS, instead of reading all this gossip. Can't fault a person for that. I don't know what you think you know/how you know concerning my fiance's professional life, but, in the future, you might not want to post such things on a public fora. It's not professional/there is too much gossip as it is. Please refrain in the future. Thanks. This is my last post. Please remember folks, real people w/feelings reside behind every news story.

To the deputy's fiance: Despite the good things your husband does, I wouldn't write anymore posts about it here. His supervisors read these and will probably keep him off patrol longer if you keep on. While he has got all this "down time" (down working in the detention center), you should advise him to apply at a larger agency like Pitt or Martin County...they appreciate their peeps a little more. By the way, your husband is an excellent officer.

Just so the public KNOWS what kind of a deputy/person this individual is, right now there is a terrible wreck in front of his house...a two car collision. He walked out to be of service to the citizens of this county on a BAD leg. The man can barely get around. All this DESPITE what has transpired the last two weeks. He was there before any EMS or BCSO, despite his own pain. BCSO, you have a great asset there. A man who ignores his own medical conditions and feelings to help others unselfishly.
