A 13 year-old boy is being called a hero for rescuing two people who were drowning.
It all began Monday evening when Winston Blackledge noticed a father and son drowning in a local pond in Edenton, Chowan County. Witnesses say Blackledge, who had just finished cutting the victims' yard, grabbed a rubber tube and threw it into the water. The two men, Dean and William Heffernan, then took hold of the tube while Blackledge pulled it to shore. Both men say they lost consciousness while in the pond, but were soon revived by paramedics.
William Heffernan says a sudden dip in the pond caused him to lose his footing. Winston Blackledge is expected to be honored by the town of Edenton in July.
