7th District Congressional Challenger Concedes

A machine recount did not change Democrat Mike McIntyre's narrow lead to hold onto his Congressional seat in the 7th District and Wednesday night his opponent conceded.

Republican David Rouzer said, "Now that the recount has been completed and the tally of votes is official, we can move forward satisfied that each vote was counted properly and accurately. I have called Congressman McIntyre to congratulate him on a hard-fought victory, and I wish him well as he joins a new Congress that will be dealing with very difficult issues facing our country."

The State Board of Elections shows McIntyre with a 654 vote lead over Rouzer after 11 of the 12 counties within the 7th Congressional District finished recounts.

The 7th Congressional District includes Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Cumberland, Duplin, Hoke, Johnston, Lenoir, New Hanover, Pender, Robeson, and Sampson counties.
