Two people charged in the East Carolina student financial aid scheme received their sentence yesterday in Pitt County superior court.
Michael Elliot Smith and Keith Peten pleaded guilty to six felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense. According to a local newspaper, the men will serve five years of probation and will have to pay restitution to the university.
The State Bureau of Investigation says more than two hundred thousand dollars from financial aid money was stolen. In May, Debra Cherry Albritton the former director, pleaded guilty for her part in the scheme she received one year in prison.
