Police say 28-year-old Stanley Dale Williams, of Stony Hill Trail, was charged with an open count of murder late Friday afternoon.
Williams was already in the Craven County jail on other charges related to the same crime.
Williams was originally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a weapon into occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
The shooting happened on February 15, 2009.
Police say officers were called to the club on Highway 55 West just before 5 a.m. that day. They found 20-year-old Cameron Jamar Gatling, of Cove City, suffering from a gunshot wound. Gatling died at the hospital.
According to a press release: "New Bern detectives learned a fight broke out inside the club and a large crowd had moved into the parking lot when the shooting took place. As part of the on-going investigation, detectives worked to identify as many of the people present at the time of the shooting as possible. Interviews were conducted with numerous witnesses to determine exactly what took place, before moving ahead with a charge as serious as murder."
