Pole Position, one of 187 boats fishing in the Big Rock Blue Marlin tournament in Morehead City, was missing from the leader board Tuesday.
Bruce Paul, media director for the tournament, says, they never had an opportunity to net the biggest blue Monday...not because they weren't out at sea trying. Instead, they were saving four lives.
A distress call came into Coast Guard Station Fort Macon around 10 a.m. Monday morning that a 25 foot fishing boat was taking on water. Luckily, Pole Position out of Wilmington, was nearby, and actually came to their rescue and took them on board. The boat they were rescued from sank.
The Coast Guard is investigating what caused their boat to sink.
