State Regulators Fine Contractors In Deadly Incident

State regulators have fined two contractors more than 16-thousand dollars for their role in a February incident in which a brick wall collapsed and killed a construction worker in Durham.

Thirty-five-year-old Derrick Pilgrim was crushed under a collapsed wall during a renovation of the old offices of Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company. The Department of Labor fined Barnhill Contracting for its subcontractor, Big Dog Demolition, for safety violations yesterday.

The labor department says the companies have 15 days to appeal the citation.
