A close friend of North Carolina's Senate
leader Marc Basnight says the senator's wife is doing all right in
a Chapel Hill hospital.
Basnight, his staff and colleagues have all refused to say
precisely what's wrong with Sandy Basnight, who has been battling
an illness for some time.
The Dare County Democrat told colleagues in a letter Monday that
he'd be away from the Statehouse for the immediate future because
of an illness in the family.
Basnight's roommate in Raleigh, Senator David Hoyle of Gaston
County, told Senators today that he'd spoken to Basnight this
morning. He says Sandy Basnight appears to be holding her own and
the family is optimistic about her recovery.
