It was a sad scene Tuesday morning at Martin General Hospital.
Family members arrived at Martin General Hospital shortly after 11AM Tuesday morning.
Sheriff Gibbs was among a large group of lawmen and emergency personnel standing by when the news came down.
Deputy Charlie Brown's family was visibly shaken when they arrived.
Law officers were also visibly upset and trading hugs and giving support throughout the morning hoping and praying for good news.
Flags have been lowered to half staff at the Martin County Courthouse mourning the death of Brown.
Brown's neighborhood is also coming together to grieve. Just hours after the death of Deputy Brown people who live next to the Brown family were talking about their neighbor.
Maria Forney and her husband Elvie live a stones throw away from the Brown family on Evan Perry Road in Jamesville, and say they are saddened by the tragic death of their neighbor and friend, Charlie Brown.
Brown, a deputy for the Martin County Sheriff's Office was shot Tuesday morning in Williamston, and later died at the hospital. That news stunned, Elvie Forney. He worked with Brown on the Williamston Police force a few years back.
The Forney's say the neighborhood will reach and out and try to help Brown's wife, Cynthia, and his two daughters, Morgan and Carlie anyway they can.
