Police in Kinston are investigating two different shootings Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The first shooting happened around 7:10 p.m. on Sycamore Road. There police found 38-year-old Sheridan Outlaw with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. A witness told police he heard one shot and saw two men running away.

Outlaw was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

The second shooting happened around 12:40 a.m. Police say they were called to Lenoir Memorial Hospital where Gary Atkins of Tarboro showed up with a gunshot wound to his leg. Neither the victim, nor his friend could tell police where the shooting happened.

Police say they do not believe the two shootings are related.
