AIR FORCE: Human Error Caused Fatal Afghan Crash
Killed was Captain Thomas Gramith and Captain Mark McDowell, both who were stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro.

Human error caused a deadly crash that killed two Air Force officers who were based in Eastern Carolina.
Tuesday the Air Force released a report on the crash that happen July 18th in Afghanistan. Killed was Captain Thomas Gramith and Captain Mark McDowell, both who were stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro.
The report says the two were practicing night high-angle strafe attacks with their F-15E Strike Eagle when the lead weapons systems officer incorrectly assessed the training target's elevation. They believed the target was at 4,800 feet while it was actually 10,200 feet above sea level.
The two officers were killed on impact and their $55-million aircraft was destroyed.
