High Surf Advisory In Effect

A high surf advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday for Carteret, Onslow, Outer Banks Dare and Outer Banks Hyde counties.

Hazardous surf and high threat of rip currents will impact area beaches through this evening.

The winds from the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry is producing high waves offshore and rough surf at the beaches. The high waves are expected to generate breakers as high as 8 feet along the Outer Banks by this afternoon.

The high risk of rip currents along with minor beach erosion will continue throughout the day. Beach goers are urged to remain out of the surf, even if they are experienced swimmers.
