House Speaker Joe Hackney is giving a good review to the legislative session and says he hopes the cooperative attitude in the House carries over to budget negotiations.
Hackney and other Democratic leaders patted themselves on the back yesterday for a session that has not had any major controversy. He says he considers it to be "a middle-of-the-road" session, in keeping with the views of most North Carolinians.
The Senate released its budget proposal yesterday, about two weeks after the House approved its version. There are significant differences, but Hackney wouldn't say if there's anything he's adamantly against. He points out the Senate still has to vote on a final version before the two chambers meet to work out their differences.
