New Law Requires Boaters To Avoid Stopped Police

A new law is in effect for this year's boating season and it requires that boaters avoid stopped officers on the water just like vehicles are required to do on the highways.

Wildlife Resources Officer Jon Evans in Wake County says it can be dangerous when a boat wake hits a police boat stopped next to another boat.

The new law requires that boaters slow to no-wake speed if they are within 100 feet of a police boat with its blue lights on.

Boaters who violate the law face a 250 dollar fine.
