A North Carolina company specializing in storm-resistant homes is helping some Gulf Coast residents affected by Hurricane Katrina by rebuilding their homes.
Dentist John Watts lost his waterfront home in Bayou View, Mississippi, to Katrina. He contacted Security Building Group of Sneads Ferry, (North Carolina) to help rebuild his home.
Security Building specializes in building Atlantic Coast homes of concrete using removable, reusable aluminum forms, elevated on concrete pilings.
A company official says the firm is taking on the Watts home and now has another house, plus two in the design phase.
Watts says this type construction costs about 15-to-20 percent more than wood frame construction but he thinks he'll make up at least that amount quickly in reduced utility and insurance costs.
